Composer and bandleader W.C. Handy introduced blues form as a standard feature in jazz music. As a promoter, Williams helped enable the careers of Black performers.
OK. I don't have access to our previous discussion (still learning how this business works) but I actually thought the Handy/Williams podcast was right on target. I know well the challenge of having to pare down and edit all the wonderful things you'd like to say in order to get a manageable script - you just can't say it all. But you say enough, enough to make me want to learn more. I knew that the blues/jazz difference was way more than complexity and 12 bars - that was me kind of being flip....and being tickled that you actually addressed my question about the difference. As you so clearly described, the two genre's (or the one within the other) have a large number of differences, with blues being the simpler, more spare style (that doesn't necessarily mean it's easier to write or perform, that's for sure). Anyway...all this to say that I appreciate your show and look forward to your next episode. If you ever have a bad day and question why you're doing it all, give me a call. I'll remind you why you need to do it, you must do it, for the entertainment and learning of those of us who have no clue about jazz, and those clever words (what was it -- "spice"? "tincture"?).
